About

In North Africa, and more generally across the African continent, rural areas are witnessing renewed interest, particularly through ambitious public policies related to rural and agricultural development and the management of natural resources. Numerous research projects are conducted in these rural regions; however, many of them remain difficult to access outside the academic sphere. Moreover, rural and agricultural development experiences are highly diverse and offer an opportunity to engage in discussions on the different possible development alternatives, both in terms of overall direction and in terms of support mechanisms and methodologies.

For these reasons, the DRIDURA Training and Research Unit (Rural Dynamics, Innovations and Sustainable Development) publishes the journal Alternatives Rurales, which aims to:

  • Communicate research findings on agricultural and rural development.
  • Based on collected experiences, provide a platform for dialogue among various development stakeholders on agricultural and rural policies, as well as support methodologies and mechanisms.
  • Structure a critical debate and propose different alternatives for sustainable rural and agricultural development.

This journal is intended for stakeholders in agricultural and rural development, institutional actors, researchers, professional organizations, students, and the general public.

The journal adopts a multidisciplinary approach. It offers easily readable articles, which may include original scientific papers, French translations of scientific articles published in English, summaries of end-of-study project work, or testimonials from development practitioners.
